The only thing that can be said about this Taylor black acoustic guitar: top notch. After spending way to long trying the Taylor T5 Custom black acoustic guitar out, I am firm in my beliefs that Taylor may have crafted the perfect shallow body guitar. Of course it has the beautiful Taylor sound one would come to expect, but what struck me is the amazing attention to detail in the design, much attention has been paid to the little details which make this black acoustic guitar one of a kind.
To be honest though, it sounds mediocre as a standalone. I would be lying if I said it sounds 10/10 unplugged because, honestly, it does not. It is a Shallow body guitar with sound holes, and as most musicians know, that kills the unplugged sound. Shallow body guitars tend to sound a bit thin, and this guitar is no exception as it is with any other unplugged shallow body guitar on the market such as the shallow bowl Ovations, so do not expect to run a gig unplugged and be heard.
But then when you plug her in… it’s a heavenly experience. It is a tone that you truly need to hear to understand. Often times you will hear guitar traditionalists degrade the sound on shallow body guitars because the tone is not as deep as a regular one, but the acoustic sound voice on this black acoustic guitar sounds truly astonishing, especially taking into account the body it’s built with. I may believe that nothing beats a true acoustic Taylor, but this baby pushes me to reevaluate that opinion.
What else is so great? It has ridiculously fast action (ease of play), and I love the feel, the sound, the neck, the color, finish, tuners, fret work, materials. I would definitely recommend this guitar for someone looking for shallow body black acoustic guitars with the money to spend.
